The formation of Story Scotland’s transportation division comes two months after the launch of Story Energy (Scotland) as a dedicated energy sector business.
“We see significant investment in these areas over the next decade, so it’s important that our business model is adapted in a way that allows us to respond to the challenges and opportunities this will bring,” said Story Scotland managing director John MacArthur. “Having two distinct divisions brings ownership and accountability, enabling us to build stronger, more collaborative relationships with our clients.”
Craig Lafferty has been named managing director of the newly formed transportation division. As previously reported, Alan Boyle leads the energy division.

“Craig and Alan are two very accomplished business leaders in their own right, and together we can create something special in Scotland – a great place to work, a trusted partner for our clients, and a contractor that genuinely cares about the communities we work in,” MacArthur said.
Storey already has around 40 projects already lined up for the next 12 months under Network Rail’s CP7 framework. Projects include a new train station in Barrhead and light rail works on the Edinburgh Trams network, to be undertaken by Storey Scotland rather than the Cumbria-based Story Rail business. It is also expanding into the ports and harbours sector with a place on Peel Ports’ general construction framework.
Storey’s transportation division is forecast to generate sales of between £70m and £80m in the coming year (to March 2026), with plans to scale up to £100m+ annually within five years.
