The board of Travis Perkins has chosen Gavin Slark, currently chief executive of SIG and previously of Grafton Group, to succeed Pete Redfern at the helm.

Redfern, the former Taylor Wimpey chief executive, stepped down from the Travis Perkins board in March after just six months in post, citing ill-health.

In bringing in 60-year-old Slark, the board has gone for someone with substantial experience in the sector.

Between 2006 and 2011, Slark was chief executive of plumbers’ merchant BSS Group before its acquisition by Travis Perkins. From 2011 to the end of 2022 he was chief executive of Grafton Group. He has been chief executive of SIG plc since 2023.

It could be a few months before he gets to start his new job, pending arrangemetns with SIG, but Travis Perkins said it would be no later than 1st January 2026.

Travis Perkins chair Geoff Drabble said: “The board and I are delighted that Gavin has agreed to join us. We are all very much looking forward to working with him. Gavin brings with him unrivalled experience of the sector in addition to a long pedigree as a CEO of significant public companies. Gavin is well placed to continue the work we have started to refocus and change the way we operate in order to better serve our customers and work effectively with our suppliers, as well as engage and motivate our teams.”
