Roger White has swapped Irn-Bru for Tennent’s lager and Magners cider by joining C&C Group as chief executive.
Mr White will step into the role at the Dublin-based group next month after leaving AG Barr, producer of Irn-Bru, for 22 years.
He stepped down from the Cumbernauld business in May this year and said at the time he had no firm plans. His appointment by C&C follows an extensive search process by the company along with an independent executive search firm. Ralph Findlay will return to the position of non-executive chair.
Prior to his long stint at AG Barr, Mr White held several senior management positions at Rank Hovis McDougall Group (RHM) from 1987 to 2002.
He is currently non-executive director of Warburtons and chair of Beatson Cancer Charity. He was previously senior independent director of Troy Income and Growth Trust (2014-2024), and non-executive director of William Jackson Food Group (2019-2024).
Commenting on his new role, he said: “It is an exciting time to be joining the business. C&C has a unique business model, great brands and a committed team, with the potential to create significant long-term value.”
As CEO he will receive an annual base salary of £650,000, a pension allowance of 5% of salary in line with the contribution available for the group’s employees, a benefit allowance of 7.5% of salary and maximum annual bonus opportunity of 125% of salary.
A one-off LTIP grant of 150% of base salary will be made on appointment, with performance objectives linked directly to creating shareholder value.
Mr White follows a familiar path for executives of Scottish companies joining C&C. Sir Brian Stewart was part of a group of former S&N executives who took senior roles at the company in 2009-2010 following S&N’s takeover by Heineken.
They included John Dunsmore, who was a long-term operational director and short-term chief executive of the Scottish brewer. C&C former chief executive Stephen Glancey is another former S&N director.
